Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
Jackson Police are investigating a case involving puppies that were discarded in a trash dumpster. On Saturday afternoon, Jackson Police were called to 1425 South Highland in reference to eight
newborn puppies found in a dumpster. An employee of this business was putting trash in the dumpster and saw live, newborn puppies moving around inside the dumpster. The puppies were sent to an area dog rescue organization. They were required to hand feed the newborn puppies every four hours.
The investigation revealed video surveillance from the store showed a male suspect tossing a trash bag in the dumpster located at this convenience store. The tag number was obtained from the suspect’s vehicle and investigators were able to identify the suspect as Ined Holmes, Jr., 46 of Jackson. Police signed an arrest warrant on Holmes and went to his residence. Holmes was found to be there and was arrested. There was a female dog chained to a dog house in the backyard. It appeared to be the mother of the puppies. Jackson police obtained a court order through Jackson City Court, which ordered the mother dog to be taken and reunited with the puppies.
Ined Holmes, Jr. was charged with 8 counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals in Jackson City Court.
He was arraigned and released this morning on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on May 5th, at 9:30 AM for a preliminary hearing.
The animal rescue volunteers report that the mother dog, Diamond, has accepted the puppies and is feeding them.
