TAKING BACK UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m

The San Gabriel Police Department will again collaborate with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the 11th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This is yet another opportunity for members of the public who missed the previous events or have accumulated unwanted/unused prescription drugs to safely dispose of those medications. The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked.

In the previous ten Take-Back events nationwide since September of 2010, over 5.5 million pounds of prescription medication were safely removed from circulation at collection sites operated by the DEA and thousands of state and local law enforcement partners across the country.

This initiative addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.5 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. That same study showed that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s National Take-Back Initiative events are also a significant piece of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy’s prescription drug abuse prevention strategy.

The San Gabriel Police Department will act as an official drug collection site on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. You may bring your unwanted prescription drugs to the department located at 625 South Del Mar Avenue, San Gabriel, CA 91776. For further information regarding the event, contact Lieutenant Brian Kott at (626) 308-2835 or [email protected].
