Advisory

Off highway vehicle enforcement results in 19 people being cited for operating on public and/or private land

DATE: April 24, 2016
INCIDENT: OHV ENFORCEMENT IN JUNIPER FLATS AND DEEP CREEK AREA

SUMMARY:

Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station Off Highway Vehicle Team (OHV) conducted enforcement operations in the Juniper Flats and Deep Creek areas for the third week in a row. The operation was conducted on Saturday, April 23, 2016, and Sunday, April 24, 2016.

During the weekend approximately 60 public contacts were made. There were 19 people detained and cited for operating an Off Highway Vehicle on public or private land without permission and 3 people were detained and cited for driving a vehicle into an area closed to the public.

With the goal of keeping public safety in mind, the team has developed a strong measured approach. As a reminder, the spillway area, which belongs to the Army Corps of Engineers and the County Flood Control District, is closed to ALL VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS, and those unlawfully entering the area can be cited or arrested and their vehicle(s) towed.

There are several areas in the high desert and local mountains open to OHV’s, hiking, and recreation. One area adjacent to Deep Creek is Juniper Flats, and can be accessed from BLM road JF3380 off of Deep Creek Road. Those interested in finding legal areas should contact the BLM, USFS or their local Sheriff’s station for additional information and maps. Another source to find legal areas is owlsheadgps.com which is a free service and has downloadable maps that show open routes and the agency that manages the area.

Anyone with questions regarding this enforcement and to receive information regarding legal OHV riding areas is asked to contact Deputy John Parks at (760) 552-6800. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the We-Tip Hotline at www.wetip.com.
