Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station thanks Volunteers for 13,600 hours of service

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station thanked their volunteers last Thursday night, April 21, 2016 at a Volunteer Dinner hosted by the SCV Sheriff’s Foundation. The annual event was held at the Child and Family Center of Santa Clarita.

During 2015, volunteers of all ages put in over 13,600 hours of service to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It is important to us to acknowledge the dedication and commitment that our volunteers provide to service our community,” said Captain Roosevelt Johnson, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

April has been designated as National Volunteer Month. The month is dedicated to honor all the volunteers in our communities.

At the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, there are a total of 86 volunteers. The volunteers work a variety of assignments from patrolling out in the field, assisting with Search and Rescue Operations, being part of a community Emergency Response Team (CERT), helping in the Records Department, or assisting the public at the front desk of the Sheriff’s Station.

At the annual dinner held Thursday night, Deputy Fanny Lapkin, the Coordinator of the Volunteer Program recognized volunteers for their achievements with certificates.

The “Volunteer of the Year” certificate was awarded to Reinhard Schnepp. He has been a dedicated volunteer at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station since 2005.  In addition to taking on the role of the Volunteers on Patrol (VOP) training officer, Schnepp has also taken an administrative leadership role for the program. He helped streamline the system for recording volunteer minutes and assists with recordkeeping on an ongoing basis.

“Being a volunteer at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station is a way that I can give back to my community,” stated Reinhard Schnepp.

Other certificates were awarded to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Volunteer of the Year, Kristeen Dolan; the Disaster Communication Services Operator of the Year, James Spalding; and the Explorer of the Year, Michael Lapcheske.

Recognition was also given to volunteers that had reached various thresholds in their hours of volunteer service during 2015, ranging from 250 hours to 10,000 hours.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Fanny Lapkin, who oversees the Volunteer program, appreciatively commented about the volunteers, “We couldn’t do the job without them.
