4/5/16, press release: Burglary

On April 25th, 2016, at approximately 5:42 AM, Burlington Police Officers were dispatched to an address on Maple Street for a burglary in progress. The initial report indicated that the residents of the apartment were woken by a male suspect who, when detected, fled the apartment as the residents gave chase.

Sgt. My Nguyen arrived in the area and was flagged down by one of the residents who gave chase. This witness showed Sgt. Nguyen the area where she had last seen the suspect, an alley way on lower Main St. Sgt. Nguyen began to canvas the alley way and found the suspect crouched in an alcove. The suspect was detained without incident and property taken from the Maple St. apartment was found nearby. A witness from the apartment burglarized identified the male suspect detained by Sgt. Nguyen as the male who was chased from the apartment. The suspect was formally identified as Roger S. Chamberlain, 45 years of age, of Winooski Vermont.

Chamberlain is a convicted felon, his notable criminal convictions include two counts of burglary, one conviction of unlawful trespass (pled down from burglary), three convictions for retail theft, and one conviction of violation of an abuse prevention order. Chamberlain was arraigned on one count of burglary this morning in Vermont Superior Court – Criminal Division. Chamberlain was released on pre trial conditions which order him to have a curfew of 8 PM to 6 AM at his Winooski address and to remain away from the Maple St. apartment and the resident witnesses he encountered during this crime. A person convicted of burglary shall be imprisoned not more than 15 years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.

The Burlington Police are currently investigating numerous reported burglaries which are similar in nature to this crime. Anyone with information related to this burglary or the criminal activity of Chamberlain are asked to call Cpl. T. Chenette at (802) 540-2271.
