The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

April 21st.

0703 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a vehicle theft from the 7400 block Wells Avenue. A Red 2007 Nissan Versa, CA lic.# 5YDX682 was stolen.

0805 Hours: Animal Services Officer Fejarang came upon a three vehicle injury collision on Cherry Street and Mowry Avenue. Passengers in all three vehicles sustained injuries that were treated at the scene. Officer Allum responded and took over the investigation.

1042 Hours: Officers responded to the Newark Square Shopping Center for a male subject passed out in the doorway of a business. Officer Heckman arrested a 46 year old transient Newark male for public intoxication. The suspect was booked at the Santa Rita Jail.

1709 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted a 31 year old transient Newark male and arrested him on his 3 warrants. He was cited and released.

1752 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to JC Penney for a shoplifter in custody. A
20-year-old male from Fremont was cited and released for petty theft.

1906 Hours: Officer Ackerman responded to the 35900 block of Anjou Place for a disturbance.
A 56-year-old male from Newark was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail for a violating a criminal protective order.

1953 Hours: During a pedestrian stop at Thornton Avenue at Highway 880 Officer Jackman arrested a 24 year old transient male on his two outstanding warrants. Officer Jackman also arrested a 25 year old female transient from Fremont for violating a criminal protective order. Both suspects were booked at the Fremont Jail.

0218 Hours: Officer Posadas responded to the 36000 block of Dalewood Drive on a report of a stolen vehicle (2001 Chevrolet S-10). The Fremont Police Department located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The stolen vehicle ran out of gas and a 30-year-old male transient from Newark was taken into custody by the Fremont Police Department. The vehicle was returned to the registered owner. April 22nd.
1005 Hours: On 04/19/16 Officer Posadas investigated the theft of a moped, CA lic.# C036831. On April 22nd Officer Posadas received a phone call from the victim stating he saw his moped advertised for sale on Craig’s list. Officer Horst made arraignments to purchase the moped at an address on Smith Street with the purchase money to be placed in the mailbox. Officers driving unmarked vehicles located the moped in front of a residence on the 6300 block of Smith Avenue. Marked Police units converged and recovered the moped. No suspect was located, but the investigation is continuing. The moped was released back to the registered owner.

1059 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated an auto burglary that occurred on 04/20/16 on the 38000 block of Jonquil Drive. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a pickup truck and stole an airline employee badge card and gate card.

1437 Hours: Sgt. Hoppe investigated a minor injury collision involving two vehicles on Jarvis Avenue near the entrance to Dino’s Restaurant.

2008 Hours: Officer Taylor accepted an employee in custody for theft at JC Penneys.
A 19 year old Newark female was cited and released.

2333 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated a window smash auto burglary in the Lido Faire shopping center. Loss was a wallet. There is no suspect information.

0052 Hours: Officer Rodgers was conducting a security check of the O’Sullivan’s parking lot when he observed Bar Security in a verbal dispute with a male subject. Security flagged down Officer Rodgers and told him that the male was indicating that he had a gun. The security guard would not let the 31 year old male from Oakland enter the bar because he was previously ejected from the bar for suspicion of using/selling cocaine in the men’s bathroom. On this occasion the suspect told Security that he “had something for them” and menacingly reached into his waistband area. Officer Rodgers contacted the suspect while he was seated in the front seat of his parked vehicle. Despite being ordered to keep his hands in plain view and being held at gunpoint the suspect continued to reach toward the passenger side of the vehicle. He was removed from the vehicle and detained. The suspect is on active searchable probation. Officer Taylor located approximately a half ounce of cocaine in the vehicle panel below the radio. Officer Sandoval assisted with the search and located a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun inside the vehicle panel. A scale and marijuana were also located inside the vehicle. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at the Fremont Jail where methamphetamine was also located on his person.

0129 Hours: Officer Khairy observed a vehicle collide into a police vehicle in the O’Sullivan’s parking lot. The driver was detained and determined to be DUI. The 20 year old Newark male admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages in O’Sullivan’s Bar. The suspect was arrested and he was booked at Fremont Jail.

0143 Hours: Officers investigated a hit and run collision where the driver of the vehicle collided with a center median curb, light pole and trees on Jarvis Avenue at Gateway Boulevard. The vehicle was left abandoned. Officer Arroyo is investigating.

0525 Hours: Upon checking a vehicle on Crestmont Avenue near Burning Tree Drive, Officer Khairy recovered an unoccupied stolen 1991 Honda Accord out of Hayward. The victim was notified and responded to retrieve it.

April 23rd.

1505 Hours: While investigating water leaking through the office celling, the EZ8 Motel staff went to the room directly above the office to assess the maintenance issue. They found a naked woman flooding the room by clogging the tub with all of the linens in the room. She then locked herself in the bathroom and refused to open the door. Officers responded and the woman eventually came out and gave consent to search her purse where drugs were found. The 32 year old transient was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked at
the Santa Rita Jail.

2103 Hours: Officer Jackman accepted a shoplifter in custody for theft at Macys. A 25 year old San Leandro male stole various clothing items. The suspect also had a small amount of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe in his possession. He was cited and released.

April 24th.

0451 Hours: Officer Arroyo responded to the report of two males arguing on Abington Drive. Officer Arroyo located the vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on Cardiff Street at Portsmouth Avenue, running, with two male occupants. The 25 year old driver from driver from Anaheim was arrested for DUI and transported to the Fremont Jail where he provided a breath sample.

1354 Hours: Officer Jackman spotted known 41 year old male (Newark) probationer near Central Ave. and the Hwy 880 overpass. A probation search was conducted and the suspect was arrested for possession of a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. The suspect was released on a citation.

1523 Hours: Officer Musantry located a wanted 59 year old Newark male walking north on Newark Blvd near Community Center Park. The suspect was arrested on his outstanding misdemeanor warrant and booked at the Santa Rita Jail.

2216 Hours: Officer Arroyo responded to the 36000 block of Ruschin Drive where a 23 year old Newark male caused a disturbance at the residence of his ex-girlfriend. He was ultimately located and arrested for public intoxication and booked at Santa Rita Jail.
