– Petaluma Police Department Post Butter and Eggs Day Parade Press Release

Incident: Petaluma held its annual Butter and Eggs Parade this past weekend. The parade went well and police did not have any significant problems during the parade or with traffic control during the parade.

Last year’s parade had several alcohol related incidents immediately following the parade including the brandishing of a firearm at the Roaring Donkey Bar, a DUI Collision on Petaluma Blvd. South, another fight at McGuire’s Pub involving a firearm, a patron at the Hideaway Bar who was hit over the head with a beer bottle, another brandishing of a firearm on Water St. and several other altercations in the downtown area.

This year Kentucky St. was full of post parade patrons however there were fewer problems in the area than in some past years. This was in part due to increased police presence and communication between the security staffs of the Roaring Donkey, McGuire’s Pub and the Petaluma Police Department.

In one incident which was called in by staff at the Hideaway at 1:00am Sunday Morning Warner Giron a 25 year old male from Petaluma and Aleksander Reyes a 25 year old male from Novato were reportedly causing a disturbance inside the bar. Police arrived on scene and contacted both subjects outside; the two were ultimately arrested for being publicly intoxicated and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

From 6:00pm until 2:00am there were five drivers arrested for DUI in Petaluma. Only one of those appears to be a subject who had been drinking in the downtown area. which was determined by questions asked by arresting officers. Brock Simpson was stopped by a Petaluma Officer at 6:36pm on East Washington St. after turning in front of and almost colliding with a vehicle on East Washington St. Simpson performed poorly on FST’s and a preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level was .201 BAC. over double the legal limit of .08 in California. Simpson was booked into Sonoma County Jail for DUI; his bail was set at $5,000.

Between 4:00pm Saturday Night and 2:am Sunday Morning Petaluma Police received 7 calls for service for subjects arguing or fighting and 3 calls for people who appeared to be intoxicated in the downtown area. Of these call only the two mentioned earlier were arrested for public intoxication after leaving the Hideaway.
