Driver sought after stolen motorcycle pursuit
Near GEORGE, Wash. (24APR2016) — Grant County sheriff’s deputies searched the Sunland Estates community midday Sunday for a motorcyclist who led them on a brief high speed chase.
A deputy around 10:30 a.m. noticed the motorcycle driving erratically on State Route 281 near north of George. The deputy gave chase, with the pursuit topping speeds of 130 miles per hour.
The deputy lost sight of motorcycle and a short time later received a citizen’s report that the motorcycle went into Sunland Estates, a small residential and recreation community along the Columbia River south of the Gorge Amphitheater in western Grant County. Deputies and Washington state troopers sealed off Sunland’s only entrance and exit road and then searched the area for about two hours with a K9 Chicka.
The suspect and the motorcycle were not found. It was later reported that the motorcycle, a black Yamaha R1, was stolen from a home in Beverly.
The only description of the motorcyclist is a medium-build person wearing camouflage pants. Other features were covered by clothing or the driver’s helmet.
Residents of the Sunland community were notified of the search asked to remain indoors to aid deputies searching the area. The search was cancelled around 2 p.m.
