TYPE OF INCIDENT: Suspect Arrested for Parental Abduction, Domestic Violence, Child Endangerment, and Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a Minor

SUSPECT: Orlando Rodriguez, 30 year-old, transient Redwood City

VICTIMS: Confidential Victim #1, 17 year-old, female, Newark, CA

Confidential Victim #2, 8 month-old, female, Newark, CA

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

On April 24, 2016 at approximately 2:20 am, the victim called 911 and reported she had been physically assaulted by the suspect and that he took their 8 month-old daughter and fled. Officers responded to the motel and contacted the victim and confirmed the suspect fled with the infant. The victim thought the suspect left the motel in a vehicle and was only able to provide a limited description of the vehicle. Officers began searching the area and locations associated with the suspect to locate the infant. At approximately 3:30 am, an officer saw the suspect walking in the 800 block of Bradford Street without the infant. The suspect saw the officer and fled on foot into the Kaiser Hospital complex. Officers established a perimeter around the property and began a search for the suspect. Officers found the suspect hiding under a portable building in the complex and took him into custody without incident. The suspect initially gave conflicting statements about where the infant was but he eventually admitted he left the infant in the yard of an unknown residence near the motel. Redwood City Police requested additional resources from the Redwood City Fire Department, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services. A unified Command Post was established in the 1400 block of Stafford Street and a yard-to-yard search began.

At approximately 4:30 am, a Redwood City police officer searching for the infant located her in a side yard of a residence in the 1400 block of Arguello Street. The yard was cluttered with debris and vehicle parts and the infant was not visible from the street. The infant was transported to a local hospital where she is being treated for exposure and minor injuries. The mother of the infant sustained a complaint of pain from the physical assault.

The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for parental abduction, domestic violence, child endangerment, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and outstanding felony warrants. Anyone with information regarding this incident or this suspect is encouraged to contact Detective Roman Gomez at 650-780-7620.
