Residential Burglary Suspects Arrested

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Residential Burglary Suspects Arrested

SUSPECT #1: Alejandro Avina, 22 year-old, Redwood City resident

SUSPECT #2: Jose Cruz, 20 year-old, Redwood City resident

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at approximately 11:30 am, the suspects burglarized a residence in the unit block of Vera Court in Redwood City. The suspects entered the residence through a rear unlocked window and ransacked the residence taking computer equipment and other valuables. The suspects fled and were not initially apprehended. The burglary was captured on the victim’s home surveillance system and detectives reviewed the footage and were able to identify both suspects.

On April 4, 2016 at approximately 4:00 pm, detectives located Suspect Avina in the 3700 block of Rolison Road in Redwood City. Avina was taken into custody without incident and a search of his residence revealed property taken during the burglary. On April 22, 2016 at approximately 2:00 pm, detectives saw Suspect Cruz walking in the 500 block of Stambaugh Street in Redwood City. Cruz saw the detectives and fled on foot and began jumping fences and running through yards. Officers established a perimeter around the area and located Cruz in the 600 block of Chestnut Street and took him into custody. Both suspects were booked into the San Mateo County Jail for residential burglary.

Home surveillance systems are becoming an important tool for law enforcement to solve these types of crimes. The high quality images that were obtained from the victim’s home surveillance system lead to the quick identification of these suspects.
