IRS phone scam has been resurfacing in the area. Be leary of anyone claiming to be IRS demanding money over the phone
We would like to remind everyone to be aware of these phone scams where callers are pretending to be from the IRS. Cons make calls claiming to be IRS officials, demanding payment and will often threaten arrest if they don't receive their money. We have received numerous phone calls from residents reporting of individuals making such claims.
The IRS will never demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill. The IRS will not require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card or ask for credit/debit card information over the phone.
Please, advise your friends and family members of this scam and to follow up with the IRS to verify legitimacy of such claims.
