Amarillo Crime Stoppers and Student Crime Stoppers of Amarillo announce their 9th Annual Shred it Day on April 23rd
Amarillo Crime Stoppers and Student Crime Stoppers of Amarillo will be at Market Street United on Georgia from 10 AM - 2 PM on Saturday April 23rd holding our 9th Annual "Shred it Day" event. If you have old paperwork with personal information on it such as checks, bank records, credit card bills, unused credit cards or credit card checks these items should be shredded in a secure manner. DO NOT throw personal identifier information in the trash where identity thieves can locate and use your information. If you have personal records that need to be destroyed, do it securely. You can do this for a donation at this year's 9th Annual, "Shred it Day". Bring up to 4 bags or boxes(please no spirals or binders). This is a fundraiser for YOUR local Crime Stoppers organizations.
Not only does this help safeguard your identity, it also is environmentally beneficial. According to DSS, for every ton of paper that is recycled the following is saved:
17 trees, 275 pounds of sulfur, 79 gallons of oil, 100 gallons of gasoline, 350 pounds of lime, 9,000 pounds of steam, 7,000 gallons of water, 4.000 kilowatt hours of electricity (enough to power the average U.S. home for five months), and 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.
At last years event, we took nearly 16 tons of paper which was a record for our two programs. If you do the math, this event can prevent countless crimes and have a positive impact on the environment.
This event is Sponsored by Document Shredding and Storage.
