Deputies arrest two for Transportation/Possession of Narcotics for Sales and violation of AB109 release

DATE/TIME: April 21, 2016/7:56 p.m.

INCIDENT: Transportation/Possession of Narcotics for Sales

LOCATION: Barton Rd. / Vivienda Ave. Grand Terrace

SUSPECT(S): #1- Trinidad Martinez, 31, resident of San Bernardino
#2- Elizabeth Whitehead, 40, resident of Mentone

SUSPECT VEHICLE: 2004 BMW Sedan

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, April 21, 2016 at about 7:56 p.m., a Central Deputy assigned to the City of Grand Terrace conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 BMW Sedan after observing it traveling at a high rate of speed. During contact, the deputy identified the driver as Elizabeth Whitehead and her passenger as Trinidad Martinez. While speaking with both subjects, he noticed they were displaying symptoms of recent narcotics use. Both subjects were removed and detained for further evaluation, during which time the deputy learned that Martinez had an active Felony No Bail warrant for his arrest. At that time, both suspects were arrested and a vehicle search was conducted. During the search of the vehicle, a bag containing food items and a Styrofoam drinking cup were located on the back seat. While checking the contents of the cup, the deputy located approximately 10 grams of Methamphetamine concealed inside of it. A search of the food bag produced an electronic scale concealed within the food items themselves. Additional search of the vehicle passenger area produced packaging and other items consistent with the illegal sales of narcotics.

Both suspects were transported to Central Detention Center and booked for Felony Transportation of Narcotics and Felony Possession for Sales.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Martinez was in violation of the terms of his PRCS release for Felony Evading charges out of San Bernardino County, as a result of California Assembly Bill 109.

As part of Governor Jerry Brown's Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court Decision requiring the state to lower its prison population; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.
