A message from Chief Sylvester: Good afternoon to our E-Watch members: I am excited to share with you our newest service enhancement tailored towards our youth. Beginning June 11th 2016 the police department will be hosting a FREE summer camp for elementary and middle school children. We will host four, five day camps designed to promote personal safety, model citizenship and positive relationships with your police department. We will provide age appropriate instruction in topics such as Anti-Bullying, Internet & Social Media safety, Stranger Danger, Dialing 911 etc. and will also play games including kickball, basketball and giant bowling to name a few. Equipment demonstrations from the police and fire departments, a Careflight visit and a field trip are also planned. There are also volunteer opportunities for Sachse High School students as well. The camps will be held at Sewell Elementary for elementary age students and Hudson Middle School for junior high students. I also wanted to take a moment to remind our citizens and personally request that everyone lock their vehicle and take valuables out of the vehicle when leaving it. Although we are a very safe community, most crime that we do have related to property theft are crimes of opportunity. Specifically regarding theft from vehicles, we find that the vast majority of these crimes occur as a result of the vehicle being left unlocked. It only takes a moment to lock your car and remove your valuables. Doing so can go a long way towards preventing being a victim of this crime. As always, I and our department are here to serve you.
