Relay for Life this Weekend at South High

This year’s American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” for the Torrance area will be held at South High School on Saturday, April 23, 2016, beginning at 9 AM.  This is a 24-hour fundraiser and will end at 9 AM on Sunday, April 24, 2016.  The purpose of this event is to raise as much money as possible for the battle against cancer.

The unfortunate reality is that many of us know someone who is battling cancer, has survived it, or has lost their life to the disease. In recent years our department has been impacted by the loss of several family members and friends.  In an effort to help put an end to this terrible disease, the Department and the Torrance Police Officers Association (TPOA) are partnering to sponsor a “Torrance PD Friends and Family” team to participate in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life.”  This year’s fundraising effort is dedicated to the memory of all our loved ones who are fighting their battle or have lost their battle in 2015.

At the “Torrance PD Friends and Family” booth, we will be selling tacos, baked goods and selling TPD Relay for Life pins and TPOA Relay for Life t-shirts. We have also put together a basket for the Relay for Life silent auction with some great items inside.

If you are not able to attend, please consider making a donation to The American Cancer Society through our team. Or you can purchase a luminaria for $15.00 each in honor of someone battling cancer or is a survivor, or in memory of someone who lost their life to the disease.  These luminarias will be set up around the booths and in the stands for the Luminaria Ceremony at 9 PM on Saturday night.  If you can’t make it for any of the events during the day, please try to attend the moving Luminaria Ceremony.

You can access the Relay for Life website for “Torrance PD Friends and Family” at the following link:

This is a family oriented event so please bring the kids.  We hope to see you there!
