Ordinance Enforcement Project

In coordination with the City of Lafayette’s annual Clean Sweep initiative on May 14th, a corresponding effort on behalf of the Lafayette Police Department will begin on Wednesday, April 20th, and involve the identification of areas for specific ordinance enforcement. These enforcement efforts will be aimed at improving the aesthetic quality of our neighborhoods. The project will be organized and overseen by the office of Community Outreach and Crime Prevention.

Specific ordinances that will be identified should include, but not limited to:
- Parking violations (5/15 day and 24-hour issues)
- Any graffiti or vandalism that hasn’t previously been identified
- Street signage that needs repaired or replaced
- Overgrown grass
- Junk on properties
- Streets that need maintained (leaves, debris and trash in streets and alleys)
- Street lights out
- Trash cans remaining at the curb after 9pm on collection days

Community Outreach and Crime Prevention will then coordinate solutions between patrol, the Engineer’s Office, the Street Department, and any other group necessary to solve identified problems. The biggest enforcement push will run from May 11th through May 13th. Abandoned vehicles will be tagged during the identification period, but will all be towed during the 3 day enforcement period. This project will be concluded at the start of the Clean Sweep event.

This enforcement effort will be advertised on the department’s social media outlets and input from the public for problem locations and issues during the media advertisements will be requested. We view this collaborative project between the police department and the community as a valuable step in maintaining and improving the aesthetic quality of our neighborhoods.

Any issues related to this project can be directed to the undersigned at 807-1221, emailed to [email protected], messaged to Lt. Gossard through Nextdoor.com, or tweeted to the department’s Twitter account (@LafayetteINPD).
