Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the 2500 block of Leo Avenue, Commerce, at approximately 9:45 p.m.
Two Huntington Park Police officers were conducting a surveillance at the location regarding a past murder that occurred in the city of Huntington Park.
While both officers were sitting in an unmarked Huntington Police Department vehicle, the suspect approached the vehicle on the driver’s door and retrieved a handgun from his waistband. The officer on the driver’s side lowered the window as both officer’s identified themselves as police officers. When the suspect pointed a handgun at one of the officers, an officer involved shooting occurred.
Both officers fired their weapons at the suspect striking him multiple times in the upper torso.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is listed in fair condition.
The suspect is unrelated to the officer’s surveillance regarding the investigation.
The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.
No officers were injured.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are responding to the 2500 block of Leo Avenue, Commerce, to assist Huntington Park Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting.
No officers were injured.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
