Rollover Crash Claims One Life

White County-Today at around 6:30 p.m. on CR 600 south approximately one and one half miles west of SR 43 near Chalmers, IN officers responded to a one vehicle rollover crash that claimed the lone occupant.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Tyler Bentlage has revealed that a gold 2000 Chevrolet pickup driven by Don Edward Chamberlin, 59 of Chalmers was eastbound on CR 600 south when he drifted into the westbound lane nearly striking an oncoming vehicle. Chamberlin overcorrected and went into a cornfield on the south side of the road and rolled several times ejecting him from the vehicle. Good Samaritans who stopped to help the driver administered CPR until EMS personnel arrived to take control. Chamberlin was life lined by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he succumbed to his injuries. Seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash. Family has been notified.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the cause of the crash but test results will not be available for several weeks. Assisting at the scene were the White County Sheriff’s Department, Reynolds Police Department, Monticello Fire and Rescue and the Chalmers Volunteer Fire and Rescue. The investigation is still ongoing. I have no pictures.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
