INCIDENT: Mail Theft

LOCATION: Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Terry Jones 25-year-old male from Ontario
Tony Jones 24-yesr-old male from Ontario


SUMMARY: On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, Deputies McAllister and Johnson from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department (RCPD), conducted an investigation into several reports of mail thefts in the northeastern neighborhoods of Rancho Cucamonga.

McAllister and Johnson obtained relevant information from their investigation and compared their findings with RCPD Detective’s ongoing mail theft investigations. Their paralleled findings identified several suspects and suspect vehicles involved with mail theft throughout the city.

Over the course of two weeks, two search warrants were served. Brothers, Tony, and Terry Jones were arrested for mail theft, identity theft, and forgery. During the search warrants, detectives located check washing equipment, as well as stolen mail from Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Ontario, Fontana, and Claremont. Detectives believe Tony and Terry Jones are linked to over 250 mail theft victims.

With the dramatic increase in mail theft, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department urges residents to use extreme caution when sending or receiving banking or personal information through the mail. Mail thieves use this information to forge checks and open fraudulent banking and credit card accounts.
