Advisory

Green Bay Police Department officers and command staff will be out on Community walk in neighborhoods this morning.

Green Bay Police Officers going door to door to listen to the concerns of the community.

On April 14, 2016, starting at 09:30 AM, there will be an increased police presence in neighborhoods on the east and west sides of the city in the neighborhoods near the Fox River (Downtown business district, Broadway Ave, Military business district, Old North and Navarino neighborhood). Police Officers, administrative staff, and Crime Prevention Specialists will be making contact with residents and local business owners to listen to their concerns, answer questions, inform them about recent events, and to help form working partnerships to enhance the quality of life here in Green Bay.

Officers are in the neighborhoods 24 hours a day. Today, is no different. The Green Bay Police Department is constantly evaluating its strategies to reduce crime, build trust, and create a safe environment.

“We want everyone to know that preventing crime and working with our community partners are our highest priorities,” said Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith. “Today many of our administrative staff and senior command officers will join our patrol officers out in the field.”

According to the Center of Problem Orientated Policing, crime and disorder occurs when there is an offender, place, and victim (http://www.popcenter.org/about/?p=triangle ) See attached diagram. Our goal is to educate residents to remove a side of the triangle which will protect them and make the community safer.

“I am excited to be part of this event … getting more officers-including me- out from behind desks and into the community is something we will be doing more of throughout the spring and summer months,” added Chief Smith.

Please direct all media inquiries to the media line as a PIO will be able to direct you to the specific area where officers are in located in the neighborhoods.
