National Public Safety Dispatchers Appreciation Week. National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week. April 10-16

Thanks for keeping us safe!

The week of April 10-16, 2016 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation week, also known as “Dispatcher Appreciation Week.” A week set aside specifically to formally recognize the hard work and dedication of our nation’s Public Safety Dispatchers.

Patricia Lopez has been recognized as the Newark Police Department’s recipient of the Dispatcher of the Year award. Please join the Newark Police Department in congratulating Tricia on this well-deserved award. She, along with other Public Safety Dispatchers in Alameda County were honored at the annual Dispatcher Banquet last weekend.

Communications Center personnel are considered to be the true “First Responders.” They are the first to respond to the needs of the public when they call in for assistance. Communications Center personnel provide a calm demeanor to citizens and victims in distress. In high stress situations, they are compassionate yet diligent in ascertaining important information necessary to provide to the responding units when time is of the essence.

Communications Operators make critical life-saving decisions on a regular basis. They take great pride regarding the welfare of our community members and keeping the officers of the Newark Police Department safe.

On behalf of the Newark Police Department, we would like to say “Thank You” for our Dispatcher's dedication, hard work, and compassion you display every day in keeping our officers and our community safe.
