HCSO: National Telecommunicator Week Spotlights Harris County Dispatchers
HARRIS COUNTY, TX – National Telecommunicator Week is celebrated April 11-15, 2016. The second week of April honors and celebrates achievements in the 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatching profession.
In 2015 the Harris County Sheriff’s Emergency Dispatch Center received and processed approximately 1.1 million 9-1-1 calls, over 460,000 non-emergency calls and over 1,500 Text-To-911 calls.
Earlier this month the Harris County Emergency Dispatch Center was recognized by the Texas Association of Public Safety Communication Officials and the Texas Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association Conference with the following nominations and awards:
NOMINATED:
EDC Technician Deven Corella – Technical Professional of the Year
Communications Officers Mary Edge, Brandi Rivers, Timothy Staten, and Robinne Leggett – Telecommunicator Team of the Year
AWARDED:
Communications Officer Julie Armstrong – 2015 Telecommunicator of the Year
CO Armstrong was named 2015 Telecommunicator of the Year for her role as a dispatcher during the August 28, 2015 murder of Deputy Darren Goforth.
Communications Officer Jazmin Gonzales – Silent Hero Award
CO Gonzales was awarded the Silent Hero Award for consummate professionalism as a Communications Officer in the Emergency Dispatch Center.
