PRESS RELEASE - Suspect arrested for lewd acts with child
On Monday March 21, 2016, PSPD officers investigated a complaint received through the Riverside County Child Protection Services about a possible child molestation of an 8 year old girl. The incident was reported to have occurred at the home of the child's neighbor in the 4000 block of Calle De Ricardo in Palm Springs while the child was watching a movie with children of the suspect's girlfriend at the suspect's residence.
On March 30, 2016 PSPD Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit developed enough information to contact the suspect, a nearby neighbor of the child who was identified as Jesus Mendiola Carrasco, DOB - June 1985 a resident of Palm Springs.
Detectives learned that Carrasco had inappropriately touched the 8 year old victim while inside the suspect's residence.
Carrasco was arrested for a violation of 288(A) PC - Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a child under 14 years of age. Carrasco was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, CA.
Detectives believe the suspect could have other victims who have visited the suspect's residence — specifically, children under 14 years old who are therefore less likely to report a crime to police or are afraid to report the crime to their parents.
If you have any information that will assist PSPD Detectives with this investigation or discover that your child may have been a victim of inappropriate contact or touching by the suspect, please call the PSPD Crimes Against Persons Unit at 760-323-8144.
