Call of person sleeping in vehicle leads to stolen vehicle recovery and mail theft investigation
In the early morning hours on 4/10/16, PSPD officers took a report of a stolen vehicle, a gray 2015 Mercedes 300 from the 600 block of Bedford Drive.
Later in the evening at approximately 9:30 PM, Palm Springs Fire Department and Police Department personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Desert View and Escoba Drive in reference to a subject sleeping at the wheel of a vehicle in the intersection.
PSPD officers arrived and discovered PSFD personnel talking with the driver of the vehicle. PSPD officers checked the plate of the vehicle and discovered it was the stolen Mercedes reported earlier in the morning.
The driver and sole occupant was identified as Tristan Pablo DOB 11/1979 of Palm Springs. During a search of the vehicle, PSPD officers located several checks believed to have been stolen through mail theft from several homes in Palm Springs. PSPD officers also located a small amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools.
Tristan Pablo was found to be out on bail and was arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on the following charges:
10851 VC - Vehicle Theft
496d(a) PC - Possession of a stolen vehicle
12022.1 PC - Committing felony while out on bail
11377(a) HS - Possession of Dangerous Drugs
11364(a) HS - Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
