PRESS RELEASE - Suspect Arrested in Stolen Car found in possession of stolen property
On 3/28/16 a dark blue 2008 Toyota 4Runner was stolen from the 2200 block of E Tahquitz Canyon Drive.
On 4/11/16 at approximately 6:30 AM, PSPD Burglary Detectives spotted the vehicle in the 1300 block of E Via Escuela in Palm Springs.
Detectives and officers conducted surveillance of the vehicle and observed the vehicle occupied by a male and two females.
PSPD with the assistance of the East P.A.C.T (Post-Release Accountability and Compliance Team) and the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) stopped the vehicle in the Home Depot parking lot located in the 5000 block of E Ramon Rd. in Palm Springs without incident.
All three occupants were detained. The driver Pedro Esparza, DOB - 7/18/1986 from Cathedral City was arrested. The other two occupants were identified and released and no charges are pending against the occupants at this time.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located evidence tying Esparza to the crime as well as locating several pieces of mail believed to have been stolen from several Palm Springs residences and residences throughout Riverside County.
The Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) has assumed the lead investigation on the stolen vehicle investigation and PSPD Burglary Detectives have taken possession of the stolen mail and are continuing their investigation.
Esparza was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for the following charges:

10851 VC - Theft of Motor Vehicle
