The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

April 7th.

0653 Hours: Officer Heckman was patrolling the 6100 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue and located a 29 year old Newark male riding his bicycle. The male had outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance and theft. The male was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1045 Hours: Officer Heckman observed a 49 year old Newark male acting suspiciously and dumping items into a trash can on the 7700 block of Arrowhead Place and called out for him to stop. The male ignored the request and entered the house. The suspect appeared shortly thereafter and admitted to discarding drugs and paraphernalia inside the garbage can. The male suspect was cited and released for possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

1143 Hours: Detective Lopez investigated the theft of a green 1996 Honda Civic 2Dr (Ca. License #6UPM781) from the 35000 block of Lido Boulevard. The theft occurred overnight.

1252 Hours: Officer Heckman conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for having a broken taillight. The 43 year old female driver from Newark was in possession of nearly an ounce of methamphetamine packaged in individual baggies and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested for possession for sales and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked at Fremont Jail.

1252 Hours: Officer Knutson investigated a vandalism call at the Bank of America, located at 36900 Newark Boulevard. Unknown suspect(s) vandalized an exterior window causing minor damage.

1457 Hours: NPD Officers responded to the Central Avenue homeless encampment area on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim reported she was in an argument with a 41 year old male transient and that he had threatened her with a knife. Officer Allum located the suspect under the Central Overpass and he was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail for brandishing a weapon.

1531 Hours: Officer Allum investigated an injury collision involving a solo vehicle that ran off the road on Cedar Boulevard near Cedar Court. The vehicle ran through a temporary chain-link fence, up an embankment, and came to rest against several concrete boxes.

1612 Hours: NPD Officers responded to Byington Park on a report of subjects smoking marijuana in the park. Officers arrived on scene and observed a 51 year old Newark male quickly throw something into a garbage can. A check of the garbage can revealed a pipe and a small amount of methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

2306 Hours: Officer Geser responded to the 35600 block of Haley St on a restraining order violation. A 38-year-old male from Newark was arrested for violating a restraining order and possession of metal knuckles. The suspect was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0359 Hours: Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle on Saint Mark Ave. Officer Homayoun contacted a 32 year old Newark male and arrested him for possession of smoking paraphernalia. The suspect was released on a citation.


April 8th.


0614 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a vehicle burglary at Feral Productions, 5409 Central Ave. Between 2200 and 0600 hours, unknown suspect(s) shattered a window.

0640 Hours: Officer Heckman investigated the theft of a vehicle taken between 2100 and 0640 hours. A white 2005 Chevrolet van with a black roof rack, CA lic.# 7S00491 was taken from the 5500 block of Greenpoint Court.

0741 Hours: Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the Central Food and Liquor. The vehicle, a 2005 Toyota pickup with stolen plates had been reported stolen out of Hayward. Officer Horst arrested a 51 year old female transient for possession of stolen property. The suspect was booked at the Fremont Jail.

0802 Hours: Officer Fredstrom responded to the 5800 block of Musick Ave. to investigate a hit and run collision that occurred overnight. The suspect vehicle which had been previously reported stolen, a 2007 VW Rabbit, CA lic.# 6AJW616 was located near-by. Officer Fredstrom recovered the vehicle and documented the collision.

1322 Hours: Officers responded an auto burglary that had just occurred at Kennedy Elementary. Witness saw a male subject break into the victim vehicle and remove a purse. The suspect fled in a white Mercedes, that showed it registered in Hayward. Detective Warren responded to the Hayward address of the above vehicle and found a similar white Mercedes with no license plates. Investigation is continuing.

1837 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a window smash auto burglary in the Arteaga’s parking lot located at 5524 Thornton Ave. Loss was a pink Coach purse and a brown wallet containing cash. No suspect information.

2005 Hours: Officer Johnson checked on the welfare of a 58 year old transient on the corner of Mowry Ave and Cherry Street. He was arrested on an outstanding assault warrant and was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2113 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a stolen 1992 2D Green Honda Accord (CA license plate# 3BKJ206) from the Newark Buffet located at 35201 Newark Boulevard

2224 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a residential burglary on the 6000 block of Joaquin Murieta. Entry was made through a pried front door. Loss was keys.

0146 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a vehicle collision with both airbags deployed and the keys in the ignition. The crash occurred down the street from the registered owners’ residence on the 37000 block of Edith Street. The registered owners were contacted and denied involvement. Blood evidence was collected from an airbag.

April 9th.

1318 Hours: Officer Musantry responded to Second Chance Shelter located on the 6500 block of Central Avenue for an outside assist to Alameda County Fire. Dispatch had received a 911 call of a male not breathing inside one of the bedrooms. Officer Musantry arrived on scene and started CPR. After a short time, the male began breathing on his own. Officer Musantry stayed on scene until Fire and Paramedics Plus arrived and took over care of the male. The 41 year old male victim from Newark was transported to a local hospital where he is recovering.

1958 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a hit and run collision near Sycamore St and Mayhews Landing Road. Suspect vehicle is a gray Audi A8 possibly with black trim around the bottom of the vehicle. The rear bumper was left at the site of the collision. Victim vehicle was a parked car. Suspect is a white male adult that fled southbound on Ash Street from Thornton Ave.

2032 Hours: Officer Jackman arrested 41 year old transient male in front of the Thornton Ave Starbucks for being drunk in public and unable to care for himself. The suspect was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2108 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a hit and run collision that occurred at the intersection of Newark Boulevard and Thornton Ave. A license plate was recovered and contact was made with the 37 year old male suspect at his residence on the 39000 block of Levi Street, Newark. The suspect admitted to his involvement in the collision. The case is being sent to the District Attorney for prosecution.

April 10th.


0941Hours: Officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary at 5450 Newpark Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door had been forced open. The burglary appears to have occurred over the last week and the loss was a cash register.

1314hrs: Offices were dispatched to a residential alarm on the 6200 block of Quicksilver Place. The rear sliding door had been forced open and the residence burglarized.

1608hrs: Officer Mapes stopped a 45 year old male from Cupertino for a vehicle code violation. Upon contact Officer Mapes determined that the suspect had a suspended license and was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was cited for both and his vehicle was towed.

1626hrs: Officers were dispatched to 200 NewPark Mall (Macy’s) parking lot to check the welfare of a male acting strangely. Upon arrival Officers contacted a 33 year old male from Union City. The male was in possession of methamphetamine. He was cited and released at the scene.

1810 Hours: Officer Jackman conducted a patrol check of a suspicious vehicle that was parked on the 6700 block of Clark Ave. A 38 year old Newark male on searchable probation was in found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was cited and released.
