#LASD Volunteers Awarded California's 2016 Governor's Volunteering and Service Award for Governmental Agency

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was recently informed they were awarded California’s 2016 Governor’s Volunteering and Service Award for the Governmental Agency of the Year.  The award is provided by the Office of the Governor and “California Volunteers,” on behalf of the State of California.  It is intended to recognize an outstanding California state, county, or city agency or department that has demonstrated a remarkable dedication to engaging volunteers.  Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department personnel, including a Department volunteer, traveled to Sacramento and accepted the award on Thursday, April 7, 2016.  The awards ceremony was held in the Governor’s Council Room – Governor’s Office at the California State Capitol.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Volunteer Program consists of more than 3,600 volunteers, who have provided over 433,000 hours of service this past year.  Captain Jeff Perry, Unit Commander of the Community Partnerships Bureau, which oversees the Volunteer Program, said “This award exemplifies the dedication and commitment of our volunteers.  The extraordinary work by our volunteers is a great asset for the Sheriff’s Department and they have truly defined their roles as ambassadors in the community.  Our volunteers are vital to strengthening the partnership between the Sheriff’s Department and the communities we serve.  We are fortunate to have such a devoted volunteer workforce.”
