Suspected Burglar and Car Thief Arrested
PRESS RELEASE - On Thursday April 7th around 2:24 AM, PSPD officers were on routine patrol and contacted two people, a male and female sitting in a vehicle in the Motel 6 parking lot located at 63950 20th Ave in the City of Palm Springs.
While talking with the vehicle occupants, officers observed a stolen vehicle, a black Infiniti QX4 they knew to have been taken from a home in the 700 block of Phillips Road in Palm Springs parked directly next to the occupants they were speaking with. Suspecting the occupants might be involved with the theft or possession of the stolen vehicle, PSPD officers thanked the occupants for their time and walked away from the stop.
PSPD officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle they originally contacted. After several minutes, PSPD officers observed the male, Edward Parson DOB 11/1975 from Desert Hot Springs, enter the stolen vehicle and remove a bag.
PSPD officers quickly moved in to detain Parsons but Parsons fled from officers on foot. After a short foot chase, PSPD officers caught and arrested Parsons.
Parsons was found in possession of a stolen ID that was stolen from a residence in the 1100 block of Linda Vista in Palm Springs, a few blocks from where the vehicle was originally stolen from.
Parsons is suspected of being involved in other burglaries throughout Palm Springs. The PSPD Burglary Unit is currently investigating those other burglaries to determine if there is any evidence linking Parsons to the other crimes.
Parsons was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on the following charges.
496(d) PC - Possession of Stolen Vehicle
496(A) PC - Possession of Stolen Property
12022.1 PC - Committing felony while out on bail
"All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law"
