Two Vehicle Crash sends one to hospital

Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of M-60 Hwy and Calvin Center Rd in Cass County's Penn Township. This crash occurred on 4-5-16 at approximately 6:35am. The investigation of the crash showed that a Saturn Ion, driven by Melinda Pebley (49yrs of Elkhart, IN) entered the intersection attempting to turn left from Calvin Center Rd onto west bound M-60 Hwy. Upon entering the intersection, Mrs. Pebley failed to yield right of way to a Ford F150 driven by Phillip Cleary (27yrs of Niles, MI), which was traveling east bound on M-60 Hwy. The vehicles crashed within the intersection and afterward, Mrs. Pebley's vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a yard on the northeast corner of the intersection. Mrs. Pebley was extricated from her vehicle
by the Penn Township Fire Department and initially treated by LifeCare Ambulance. She was taken from the scene and to South Bend Memorial Hospital by the MedFlight helicopter service. Passenger in Mrs. Pebley's vehicle, Paul DeMeyer (26yrs of Elkhart) refused treatment on scene. Mr. Cleary sustained minor injuries and also refused treatment on scene. All involved parties were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Assisting Cass County deputies on scene were the Penn Township Fire Dept., LifeCare Ambulance, MedFlight and MDOT.
