Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Charges

Muncie – A traffic stop for speeding led to felony charges and the arrest of two men last evening in Muncie. Last night just before 7:30 p.m., Trooper Sam Cook was east bound on Kilgore Avenue in Muncie when he saw a west bound Caravan exceeding the 30 M.P.H. zone, with the driver not wearing a seatbelt.

Cook turned around and got the vehicle stopped on Kilgore at Nichols Ave. After making contact with the driver, Ronald Shepard, age 24 of Muncie, he became suspicious and called for a Muncie Police K-9 Unit. Muncie P.D. Officer Wells arrived, and his K-9 partner indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

Further investigation by the officers led to the discovery of several syringes and Methamphetamine. Shepard was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony; Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, Level 6 Felony and Driving While License Suspended with a Prior Conviction, Class “A” Misdemeanor. He was lodged in the Delaware County Jail.

A passenger in the van, Joshua Shaffer, age 28 of Anderson, was found to be wanted on a warrant out of Madison County for Contempt of Court. Shaffer was transported from the scene by Trooper John Clawson and lodged in the Madison County Jail.
