INCIDENT: FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

LOCATION: ARROWHEAD LAKE ROAD / WHITEHAVEN STREET, HESPERIA

SUMMARY:

On April 2, 2016, at about 11:11 AM, Deputies from the Hesperia Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a single vehicle, roll-over traffic collision, on Arrowhead Lake Road, near the intersection of Whitehaven Street. Upon arrival Deputies determined a white, four door, Nissan Maxima was driving south on Arrowhead Lake Road. The vehicle passed a slower moving vehicle in the opposing lane before losing control for unknown reasons. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned, ejecting a female juvenile from the vehicle. The juvenile, a two year old, was transported to an area hospital for treatment where the child later succumbed to her injuries suffered during the collision. The vehicle was occupied by three other children(8 years old, 5 years old and 6 months old)and an adult male driver. All of the other occupants suffered minor injuries in the collision. Investigators determined the driver of the vehicle is the children's father. He was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center in the City of Adelanto for suspicion of Child Endangerment and Felony DUI.

MAIT Investigators are continuing the investigation into the collision. Arrowhead Lake Road was closed in the area of the collision from 11:30 AM until 7:30PM while MAIT Investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
