Holden Matthew Weddington, age 18, of Santa Barbara, is in custody for the March 28, 2016 robbery of Union Bank located at 1960 Cliff Drive.

On March 28, 2016 at 12:16 p.m., officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a call of a robbery that had just occurred at Union Bank located at 1960 Cliff Drive. The suspect entered the bank and presented a demand note to a teller. The note indicated that the suspect had a weapon however none was seen. The suspect stole less than $1000.00 in cash and fled the scene on foot.

SBPD Crimes Against Persons detectives responded to assist with the investigation. Investigation revealed that a Union Bank employee recognized the suspect from a previous encounter at the bank and remembered that he had an uncommon first name, Holden. With this lead detectives were able to identify the suspect as Holden Matthew Weddington and confirm his involvement in the crime by matching his DMV photo with bank surveillance photos from the incident. A $50,000.00 arrest warrant was subsequently obtained for Weddington for the crime of robbery. On March 28, 2016 at 4:45 p.m. detectives executed a search warrant at Weddington’s Mesa area residence in an effort to locate Weddington and evidence of the crime. Weddington was not present, however his family was contacted.

On the night of March 29, 2016 Weddington appeared at a relative’s residence. Weddington was subsequently taken by a family member to Santa Barbara County Jail where he surrendered himself and at 11:40 p.m. was booked on the aforementioned charge.
