Marietta Police Department Announces Promotions First Female Member of Senior Command Staff
The Marietta Police Department has completed an exhaustive competitive promotional selection process and is proud to announce the following promotions:
Lieutenant Tanya Twaddell promoted to Police Major. Major Twaddell becomes the first female member of the department’s senior command staff. She has been a member of the department for 20 years, has a Masters degree, and she is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute.
Sergeant Justin Rutland promoted to Police Lieutenant. Lieutenant Rutland is a Marine veteran who has been a member of the department for 10 years. He is a former member of the MPD SWAT team and he has a Bachelor’s degree.
Officer David Baldwin promoted to Police Sergeant. Sergeant Baldwin is a 15 year member of the MPD and he has an Associate’s equivalent degree.
All three promotees competed for promotion against exceptionally well qualified groups of peers. They competed in an intense mixture of assessment centers, tests, and an in depth interview process that tested their skills, knowledge, abilities and accomplishments in the area of police administration, patrol operations, community relations, and criminal investigations. Chief Dan Flynn pointed out that the individuals who are being promoted now, along with the other candidates who closely follow them on the path to advancement, will be the future leaders of the MPD. He added “the future of public safety in Marietta will be in good hands with people of this caliber and values at the helm”.
Congratulations and Godspeed to Major Twaddell, Lieutenant Rutland and Sergeant Baldwin. Their promotions will become effective on April 3, 2016.
