Man arrested for stealing money from disabled adults at a group home

Ronald Rey Dumloa Abad worked at a group home for disabled adults in the Penngrove area of unincorporated Sonoma County. While he was an employee there he worked two nights per week, but usually called-in sick saying that his hospitalized mother was gravely ill and his presence was required at her bedside.

On Sunday night, Abad did not come to work, yet again. During the normal course of duties, another coworker checked a lock-box that contained the earnings of the residents of the group home. All the cash was gone. Abad was the last person to access the funds. The money inside individual bags belonging to five developmentally disabled adults who reside in the group home was also missing. A total of $1,712 had been stolen.

Abad’s stepfather came to the group home on Monday morning to return the house key. He had given Abad a ride to Windsor in the wee hours of the morning and was told to give the key back to the manager. During the ride Abad made statements indicating his sole responsibility for the theft. Abad was supposedly planning to head to Washington State.

Deputies issued a Be-On-the-Lookout for Abad to law enforcement agencies along the Highway 101 corridor, and agencies in Oregon and Washington. About seven minutes after the BOL was issued, an Ukiah PD Officer spotted Abad. The UPD Officer arrested him, drove him to the county line and turned him over to the custody of a Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff.

Abad was transported to the Main Office in Santa Rosa where he was interviewed. He was later booked into MADF for Grand Theft and Abuse/Theft from a Dependent Adult. His bail was set at $15,000. He is scheduled to appear before a Judge of the Sonoma County Superior Court, March 30, at 1:30 in dept 9.

Abad is a 30 year transient man. It is not known how long he was an employee of the group home or if he was employed anywhere else. Anyone with information about Abad is encouraged to contact the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office or your local law enforcement agency.
