Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt
On Tuesday, March 29, 2016, deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff Station and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and eat frozen yogurt.
All community members are invited to attend. The event begins at 4:00pm at the Menchie’s located at the A.V. Mall next to Dicks Sporting Goods (1301 West Rancho Vista Blvd, Palmdale).
Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt provides a unique opportunity for youth community members to meet the new Captain of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Palmdale’s neighborhoods.
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that deputies are unapproachable on the street.
Kids, Cops and Frozen Yogurt breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
This event is our first ever. We are excited to participate in this unique event where we will be interacting with our youth community members. Kids will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the new Captain of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station along with other Deputies who work in the City of Palmdale.
This event is modeled after the nationwide Coffee with a Cop events. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and youth community members one cup of frozen yogurt at a time.
