*2nd Update/Correction* Suspect In-Custody, Infant Death Investigation, 43400blk Gadsden Av, Lancaster #LASD-Homicide
**Correction** The victim is a male infant
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to Lancaster Station. They met with Special Victims Bureau detectives and personnel from the District Attorney’s Office, to investigate the death of a 5 month-old male infant.
The original incident occurred on March 22, 2016, at approximately 5:20 p.m., when deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the 43400 Block of Gadsden Avenue, Lancaster, regarding a “baby not breathing” call.
When deputies arrived, they were told by the victim’s mother, that her infant child was not breathing. Paramedics arrived and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was being treated for serious head trauma and bruising to the upper torso.
Special Victims Bureau detectives were notified and responded to investigate the incident. During their investigation, they were able to obtain information regarding the suspect, and an arrest was made the same day. The suspect is a long-time friend of the victim’s father and had been babysitting the infant at the time of the incident.
Detectives arrested Brittany Ingrassi, female White 30 years-old and resident of Lancaster, for Cruelty to a Child Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury or Death. The suspect was arraigned on this charge earlier this week.
Today, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at approximately 12:50 a.m., the victim succumbed to his injuries sustained from the assault. Homicide detectives have now assumed responsibility for the investigation. Additional charges will be filed against the suspect.
The investigation is still ongoing. There is no further information at this time.
