During snow emergencies it is important to keep main roads clear for plows and emergency vehicles.

During snow emergencies it is important to keep main roads clear for plows and emergency vehicles. Cars parked in these arteries during snow removal operations impede removal efforts and is prohibited.

The latest weather reports call for an estimated 2 to 4 inches of snow in New Jersey. We are asking the residents of Newark to prepare in advance and to look for alternative locations to park to help expedite the snow removal process; alternate side of the street parking regulations will be in effect.

Cars will be allowed to park on side of the street with even numbered addresses until such time the side of the street with odd numbers addresses has been thoroughly plowed, thereafter motorists are urged to move their vehicles to the opposite side of the street. Parking will be prohibited on the streets listed below which are considered snow removal routes. You are urged to look for parking at open public parking lots.

Wet snow is expected to begin Sunday morning until late that night with a possible accumulation of 2 to 4 inches. Below is a lists of major corridors within the City where parking is prohibited during a snow emergency.

No Parking on the following Major Corridors
Bergen Street between Nye Avenue and Chancellor Avenue
Elizabeth Avenue between Renner Avenue and Meeker Avenue
Ferry Street between Edison Plaza East and Niagara Street
Lafayette Street between NJRR Avenue to Wilson Avenue
Wilson Avenue between Merchant Street and Rome Street
Mt. Prospect between Elwood Avenue and Tiffany Boulevard

Chancellor Avenue
Lyons Avenue
Sanford Avenue
Stuyvesant Avenue
South Orange Avenue
Springfield Avenue

During such emergency, vehicles found parked on the snow emergency roads will be ticketed and towed.
