Advisory

WHAT: Arson Investigation WHERE: 204 Madonna Road WHEN: 3/15/16 at 0020 hours SUSPECT: Daniel Delgado - Transient

On March 15, 2016 at approximately 6:30 am SLOPD Officers were dispatched to the Shell Station at 204 Madonna to investigate a possible arson. Officer’s located evidence that was consistent with an individual trying to start a fire next to one of the gas pumps. Video surveillance captured the suspect actions and confirmed their attempt to maliciously start a fire at approximately 0020 hours the morning of the 15th. Fortunately the fire did not cause any significant damage and was extinguished on its own relatively quickly.

The video was circulated within the police department for a possible identification of the suspect. An alert officer was familiar with the suspect as they recalled the suspect being contacted in the area prior to the start of the fire. The officer also recalled the clothing worn by the suspect was identical to the clothing worn by the suspect in the video surveillance. Ironically, the police department had arrested the suspect on unrelated charges a couple hours after the fire had been set. The booking charges for this arrest included the misuse of 911, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Delgado, was still in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail when his identity became known. He was charged for felony arson and will continue to remain held in County Jail.
