Advisory

WHAT: Arrest:Attempted Carjacking, Burglary and Assault WHERE: 11560 Los Osos Valley Road, Nautical Bean WHEN: Monday, March 14

On Monday evening, just after 7:00 PM, the San Luis Obispo Police Department began receiving 911 calls regarding a suspect, later identified as Albert RAMIREZ, who attempted to carjack a vehicle from a 20 year old female victim who was parked in front of the Nautical Bean coffee shop in the Laguna Village Shopping Center. The female was able to lock her car doors as RAMIREZ grabbed hold of the door handle and began trying to force his way into the vehicle. RAMIREZ made several attempts to break the driver’s window using his elbows but was unsuccessful and fled into the Nautical Bean. This female victim was uninjured as a result of the incident.

Additional 911 calls reported RAMIREZ entered the Nautical Bean coffee shop after his unsuccessful carjacking attempt. Immediately after entering the Nautical Bean, RAMIREZ encountered a 22 year old female employee who was attempting to close the store. RAMIREZ immediately punched the female employee in the face causing her to fall to the ground. There had been no interaction between RAMIREZ and the female employee prior to the assault. This victim received minor lacerations to her face as a result of RAMIREZ punching her.

Immediately after punching this victim, RAMIREZ went to the counter of the coffee shop and attempted to lift the cash register. Unable to lift the register, RAMIREZ shoved it off the counter. A male employee, who saw the assault, grabbed a large kitchen knife from the back of the business in order to protect himself and his injured coworker. When the armed employee entered the front part of the business RAMIREZ fled.

The same male employee followed RAMIREZ and called 911. The male employee was able to relay their location to the 911 dispatcher. This dispatcher directed responding police officers to RAMIREZ who was detained at the Madonna Road Post Office.

As a result of this investigation RAMIREZ was arrested for 664/215(A) PC - Attempted Carjacking, 242 PC - Assault, 459 PC - Burglary and 594(B)(2)(A) PC - Vandalism. RAMIREZ was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail and his bail was set at $50,000.
