TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Kapiolani Boulevard Water System Improvement Project Update (Week of 3/14)

RMY Construction, Inc.—the contractor for the Board of Water Supply’s (BWS) water system improvement project in the McCully area is continuing work to install a new 12-inch water main on Kapiolani Boulevard. Motorists are advised to expect the following traffic modifications:

Monday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Closure of the left and center Diamond Head-bound lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard between McCully Street and Isenberg Street; and
• Closure of the two center lanes in the Diamond Head-bound direction of Kapiolani Boulevard between University Avenue and Date Street. One lane will remain open for thru traffic both along Kapiolani Boulevard and onto Date Street.

Wednesday, March 16, to Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Roving lane closures in the Ewa-bound lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard between Isenberg Street and McCully Street;
• Closure of the two center lanes in the Diamond Head-bound direction of Kapiolani Boulevard between University Avenue and Date Street. One lane will remain open for thru traffic both along Kapiolani Boulevard and onto Date Street;
• Mauka-bound traffic on Kamoku Street between Hihiwai Street and Kapiolani Boulevard may be diverted onto University Avenue;
• There will be no left turn onto Kapiolani Boulevard from the mauka-bound direction of Kamoku Street;
• Closure of the left turn only lane on Date Street, Ewa-bound, between Kapiolani Boulevard and Laau Street; and
• Closure of the right turn lane of Date Street, Diamond Head-bound onto Kamoku Street, between Kapiolani Boulevard and University Avenue. Traffic will be directed via Kapiolani Boulevard and University Avenue to access Kamoku Street.

The indicated lane closures may be modified based on project needs.

The contractor is replacing approximately 2,800 feet of 12-inch water main installed in 1938 and approximately 1,000 feet of 8-inch water main installed in 1953. The renewal of the water system will improve fire protection and water service reliability for residents in the area.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during construction hours, if possible, and to allow for additional travel time. Drivers that must travel through the work area are asked to please abide by posted traffic signs.
