The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team announces that on March 8, 2016 detectives noticed a suspicious vehicle while doing surveillance in the Union area. Detectives asked a County Deputy in the area to try and stop the vehicle. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle at US12 and Kessington. The vehicle did not stop and continued driving, heading north on Union Rd and turning west on Guyer Rd. The vehicle then left the road driving north through a field then headed west again once the vehicle reached Chapel Hill Rd. The driver abandoned the vehicle in the yard of a house on Chapel Hill and continued south on foot through the woods. The deputy and detectives gave chase. After shortly losing sight of the suspect, the area was surrounded. In a further attempt to elude capture the suspect broke into a house on Guyer St, then tried to steal a vehicle from that residence. The suspect was apprehended at this time by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, a 38 year old male, was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, possession of a stolen vehicle, home invasion, and attempted larceny of an automobile. The suspect was also arrested on an unrelated warrant for Home Invasion out of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect’s name is being with held pending arraignment. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team was assisted on scene by Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department, Michigan State Police, Department of Natural Resources, Cass County Animal Control and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
