Parolees Arrested & Charged for ID Theft, Guns & Narcotics. Don't Be A Victim! 
On 03/03/16 in the early morning hours, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle which led to the arrest of David Castaneda and Jonathan Gonzalez for identity theft. Castaneda additionally had two outstanding no bail parolee at large warrants for his arrest and was on parole for Robbery. Gonzalez was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. Both suspects were early release parolees as a result of Proposition 47.
Castaneda was found in possession of several credit cards not in his name. Several stolen and altered checks were also located inside the vehicle in the names of different victims.
Gonzalez was found in possession of approximately 20 credit cards, drivers’ licenses, health insurance cards and credit receipts not in his name.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the police station.
Detectives conducted a follow up investigation the next day. A search warrant was obtained and later served at Castaneda’s residence in the city of South Gate. Incident to the search warrant more evidence of identity theft was located inside the residence along with two handguns, approximately 12 ounces of Methamphetamine, Marijuana and property that was suspected to be purchased through fraudulent means. Castaneda was additionally charged with felon in possession of firearms, possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of controlled substance and a firearm.
On 03/08/16 the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing. As a result, Castaneda was charged with a total of six felonies, unauthorized use of another person's personal identifying information (530.5(a) PC), fraudulent possession of another person's personal identifying information (530.5(c) PC), two counts of felon in possession of a firearm (29800 PC), possession of a controlled substance for sales (11378 HS), possession of controlled substance and a firearm (11376.1 HS).
Gonzalez was charged with unauthorized use of another person's personal identifying information (530.5(a) PC), fraudulent possession of another person's personal identifying information (530.5(c) PC).
