Video of Chief Johnson's report to City Council, regarding the pursuit suspect from 2/29/16
On Monday, February 29, Mr. Thomas Ueno led authorities on a pursuit through several Orange County cities before stopping in Newport Beach. After a long stand-off, he subsequently fled on foot, evading capture until the following afternoon. There has been a lot of discussion and misinformation surrounding this incident, and the NBPD would like to take this opportunity to share what information we can with the members of our community.

Johnson addresses City Council to relay the facts of this incident and the role that our Department played in the chain of events that occurred. (The video was recorded live at last night's City Council meeting.) We hope that this information will be informative and helpful to members of our community who have questions about the pursuit and subsequent search for Mr. Ueno.
