Subject: Shooting at 926 Schumann Street

At approximately 8:35 AM officers responded to a shooting call in our city. Our investigation has so far revealed that a man and a woman were involved in a disturbance at 926 Schumann St. It appears that during the disturbance, the women shot the man in the hand. He then went to Bird Elementary School (1170 North Bird St.) to seek help.

Staff at Bird School put the school on lockdown and called 911. The school was cleared by police personnel. We are grateful that Bird School followed protocol and we are happy that at no
time were the children or staff of that facility in harm’s way.

The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female half of the incident is in police custody. The investigation is on-going.
