UNSECURE LOAD and SPEED TOO FAST CAUSES SEMI ROLL OVER

Lake County-A semi driver took the I-80 east bound to I-65 south bound too fast, causing his 40,000 pound load that was insecure to shift, rolling his semi over, and blocking the ramp.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Rob Latiker revealed at approximately 11:26 a.m., this morning, March 4, 2016, a 2016 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer, operated by 7 Hills Transport out of Cartersville, Georgia, and driven by James C. McDougal, 53 of Arlington, Texas was on the I-80 east bound to I-65 south bound ramp going too fast. The trailer was loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of zinc bars which were unsecured and shifted when t McDougal took the curve in the ramp too fast. This caused the semi-tractor and trailer to roll over onto its passenger side. Blocking the left and partial right lanes of the ramp.

McDougal was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

The trailer will have to be off-loaded before it can be uprighted. The trailer was pulled off to the left so that traffic can use the right lane on this ramp. Expect delays and backups in this area.

McDougal was cited for Speed Too Fast and Unsecure Load.
