No reportable significant events.

February 24, 2016

0748 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 53 year old male of Newark for possessing drug paraphernalia (H&S 11364). He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1819 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated a non-injury/hit & run traffic collision that occurred near the intersection of Cedar Blvd. and Central Ave.

February 25, 2016

0818 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 45 year old transient male for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1103 Hours: Officer Posadas was dispatched to a residence in the 37900 block of Rockspray St, to check the welfare of a female resident. NPD Dispatch received numerous 9-1-1 calls and, on one occasion, a female answered and claimed she misdialed. Upon arrival, Officer Posadas found a vehicle parked in the driveway that was registered to a wanted suspect with a history of domestic violence. During the investigation, NPD officers located a 41 year old male of Newark hiding inside the residence. He was arrested for resisting arrest (148(a)(1) PC), violating the terms of a domestic violence restraining order (273.6(a) PC), and for the outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

2015 Hours: NPD units responded to a report of a battery that occurred in the 35400 block of Newark Blvd and the suspect had fled prior to NPD arrival. The suspect was later identified as a 29-year-old male from Newark. At 2324 Hours, NPD units responded to a report of another battery on 6300 block of Smith Ave involving the same male. Responding units located the male a short distance away and he was arrested for misdemeanor battery and felony battery. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2040 Hours: NPD units responded to 34905 Newark Blvd (Courtyard Marriott) on a report of an unwanted guest. Officer Kovach conducted a probation search of a 33-year-old male from Hayward, and he was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

0113 Hours: Officer Homayoun, while performing a security check of the businesses in the south end of the city, located a smashed window to Legend Kung FU Academy, located at 39650 Cedar Blvd. It was later confirmed the business was burglarized.

February 26, 2016

0806 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 24 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1123 Hours: NPD Officers were dispatched to the 37000 block of Olive St, for an interrupted residential burglary. The victim called to report a male subject attempting to gain entry through the front window. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The victim provided a very good description of the suspect, whom Officer Fredstrom located near Albyn Ct. Officer Fredstrom subsequently, arrested a 26 year old male of Newark for attempted burglary. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1215 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 30 year old male of Newark for two outstanding arrest warrants. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1259 Hours: Officer Horst was dispatched to the AutoZone, located at 35060 Newark Blvd, for a disturbance between two subjects in the parking lot. Officer Horst located the couple and found the 57 transient male was restrained from having contact with his female companion. He was arrested for violating the terms of a court order (166(a)(4) PC) and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1406 Hours: Officer Knutson was dispatched to the Sportsfield Park public restrooms, located at 6800 Mowry Ave, for a subject claiming he was sexually battered inside the men’s room. The victim claimed that another man attempted to grab the victim’s genitals. The victim provided a vehicle description and license plate. Detective Bloom and Union City Officers contacted a 53 year old male of Union City, who matched the provided suspect description. The 53 year old male was identified by the victim. The suspect was arrested for sexual battery (243.4(e)(1) PC) and for loitering in or about a public restroom for the purpose of committing a lewd act (647(d) PC). The 53 year old male was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail. Thank you, Union City PD, for the assistance.

February 27, 2016

0742 Hours: NPD Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon call on Dairy Avenue, near Magnolia Street. The 911 caller stated two subjects were seen breaking windows on each other’s vehicles. Officers arrived on scene and located shattered glass in the intersection but not the involved parties. The subjects were later located on Cabernet Avenue with their damaged vehicles. Officer Nobbe arrested a 27 year old male of Fremont and a 32 year old female of Hayward for 273.5(a) PC- felony domestic violence and 273.6(a) PC – violation of a domestic violence restraining order.

1206 Hours: Officer Fredstrom arrested a 53 year old male of Newark for his 484(a) PC/10852 CVC warrant. He was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1520 Hours: NPD Officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft in-progress on Charles Street and provided a description of a male subject who left the scene on foot. Officer Musantry located the subject in front of Big Lots and learned that he was the same person arrested earlier in the shift for a 484(a) PC/10852 CVC warrant (see above). The 53 year old male of Newark was arrested for 10852 CVC (tamper with vehicle or contents within) and booked at Fremont Jail.

February 28, 2016

0931 Hours: Officer Katz investigated a non-injury traffic collision involving an unlicensed driver that occurred on Newark Blvd.

0944 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated a hit & run traffic collision involving a parked vehicle that occurred within the last three days on Thornton Ave.

1057 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated another non-injury traffic collision involving two unlicensed drivers that ran into each other on Wells Ave.

1503 Hours: During a security check of the homeless encampment adjacent to the vacant Orchard Supply Hardware building, Officers Mapes and Katz were charged by a loose Pit Bull. Officer Katz successfully deployed his Taser prior to the dog getting ahold of Officer Mapes’s leg. The dog fled the scene and its owner was notified of the deployment.

1539 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated another non-injury hit & run traffic collision. This one occurred at the intersection of Stevenson Blvd. and Balentine Dr.

1659 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a non-injury hit & run traffic collision that occurred on Baine Ave.

2206 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted a 53 year old transient male in the Safeway parking lot and arrested him for his two no-cite warrants. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0035 Hours: Officer Simon contacted a 46 year old male of Newark in front of a residence on Arrowhead Place. He was arrested for 11377 H&S – possession of methamphetamine, 11364 H&S – possession of drug paraphernalia, and 1203.2 PC – violation of probation. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0317 Hours: Reporting witness called to report a hit and run collision that occurred in the Murieta Condos parking lot. Officer Simon is investigating this collision. On 02-29-2016 at 1327 Hours the registered owner of the suspect vehicle, which we had towed from the scene, attempted to obtain a release for the stored vehicle. Officer Nobbe interviewed the 19 year old male of Newark and obtained a confession. The male was issued a citation for hit and run.

0500 Hours: A hit and run collision occurred on Braidburn Ave near Bettencourt St. Officer Rodgers is investigating this collision.

February 29, 2016

0745 Hours: Officers responded to the 6200 block of Dairy Ave. on a report of vehicle that had just been stolen. The victim advised his gold 2000 Honda Accord, CA license plate 4JAS790, had been taken after he left it running in front of his residence. The vehicle was not located.

0856 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a vehicle burglary that occurred on Buena Vista Drive sometime between February 27th and 28th. Entry was made by unknown means and loss was a stereo.

1258 Hours: Officers responded to a report of disturbance occurring in a vehicle near Home Depot. Officer Musantry ultimately arrested a 24 year old male of Newark for being too inebriated to care for himself in a public place, 647(f) PC and possessing a concealed dirk/dagger, 21310 PC. He was transported and booked into Fremont PD Jail.

1638 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated the burglary of a storage unit that occurred at Public Storage, 38290 Cedar Blvd. sometime between February 5th and the time of call.
