Bomb Squad responds to a suspicious package in Windsor
On Monday February 29, 2016 at 9:35 AM, the Windsor Police Department got a report from a person reporting a suspicious package near a public building in Windsor. Windsor Police Officers responded and saw a decorated box that was near the front of the library in a planter.
They a cordoned-off the area and called for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Detail, aka Bomb Squad. People were prevented from walking through the evacuated from the Windsor Town Green. They also called for the Windsor Fire Department to stand-by, as a precautionary measure.
Technicians responded and donned their protective suits. When the EOD tech was determined that it was unlikely the box contained dangerous materials, it was rendered safe by using a water shot.
We are grateful for the person who reported this suspicious package. It is important to everyone that we are all vigilant and call if there is something that could harm others. While it ended-up being nothing dangerous, we couldn’t possibly know that without responding in a responsible manner. At no time was the public in danger thanks to the efficient response by all. The entire incident was successfully resolved within an hour.
