Details:

On 02/25/2016 at approximately 0615 hours, Gilroy Police and Gilroy Fire Units were dispatched to the area of Monterey and Howson Street on a report of a Vehicle vs. Bicyclist collision. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a 68-year-old male who was struck by a car traveling north bound on Monterey Street. The male bicyclist was transported to a Bay Area Trauma Center with life threatening injuries. His condition is unknown at the time of this press release.

Investigators with the Gilroy Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) have assumed the investigation and are working to determine factors that may have caused the collision. At this time it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. The circumstances behind why the bicyclist was in the roadway are also unknown at this time. No arrests were made in this case as the investigation is continuing.
