Steuben remains on travel advisory

The Steuben County Commissioners in cooperation with Steuben County Highway, the Sheriff and Emergency Management have re-evaluated the current travel conditions this morning and Steuben County will remain on a travel advisory status. The national weather service has Steuben county under a winter storm warning through 4pm today. Light to moderate snow fall is expected with 1-3 inches of additional accumulation expected. Northwest winds will continue with gusts 20-30 mph that will cause drifting and blowing snow with reduced visibility. Winds are expected to diminish after midnight tonight. Non-4x4vehicles may have trouble on secondary roads especially this morning. Both state and county highway plows are out in full force. Deputies are reporting that east/west roads are drifting the worst with some drifting on the north/south roads. State roads and I69 are open however snow and ice covered in many areas making travel slower than normal and very slippery in areas. Deputies have worked 32 car crashes in the last 24 hours and handled many other slide off's, stuck in the roadway, and traffic hazards in addition. Should you have to travel today, please allow plenty of travel time. MSD Steuben schools, Fremont Schools, Hamilton Schools and Prairie Heights Schools are closed today.
