The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

February 16, 2016

0818 Hours: Officer Musantry and Officer Ackerman conducted three probation searches at the EZ-8 Motel. As a result, Officer Musantry arrested a19-year-old male of Fremont, for possession of a controlled substance and probation violation. Additional investigation is pending regarding a loaded pistol and Taser that were located in the room. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2013 Hours: Newark Police Officers and Detectives conducted surveillance for a wanted 25 year old male of Newark. The male was tracked to a residence on Truckee Court and officers were able to capture him when he fled out the rear of a residence and into the adjacent shopping center. The male was wanted for 7 felony warrants and by multiple police agencies from numerous counties for the following charges: Fremont PD: 10851 CVC – auto theft; 2800.2 CVC – felony evading of police in a pursuit. Yolo County: (2 Separate Warrants) 10851 CVC auto theft; 496 PC – possession of stolen property; 4573 PC – unauthorized communication within a prison/jail; 11377 HS- possession of narcotics. Napa County: (3 Separate Warrants)
10851 CVC – auto theft; 459 PC (3 Counts) - 2nd degree burglary; 460 PC (3 Counts) 1st degree burglary; 594 PC – vandalism; 594 b PC – felony vandalism; 496 PC – possession of stolen property. Santa Cruz County: 459 PC (2 Counts) - 2nd degree burglary; 484 g PC – fraudulent use of a credit card; 530.5 PC – identity theft. The male was also wanted for questioning by Marin County Sherriff’s Office and Novato PD for several residential burglaries they are investigating. Upon his capture, officers located methamphetamine and additional stolen property and a stolen truck associated with him. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.


February 17, 2016

2149 Hours: Officer Smith investigated an auto burglary that occurred on the Jarvis Ave. After the victim’s purse was stolen, a female suspect attempted to use her credit cards at two locations in Hayward. Officer Smith is continuing the investigation.

February 18, 2016

1241 Hours: Officer Katz responded to Safeway, located at 5877 Jarvis Ave, for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Katz accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 22 year old female of Newark for petty theft (PC 484). She was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1357 Hours: Officer Knutson responded to Safeway, located at 5877 Jarvis Ave, for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Knutson accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 51 year old male of San Jose for petty theft (PC 484). He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1847 Hours: NPD units responded to the 36700 block of Bishop St on a report of intoxicated male smashing items in his house with a hammer. A 58-year-old male from Newark, was taken into custody without incident for brandishing and domestic battery. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0020 Hours: NPD units responded to the 6300 block of Normandy Drive on a report of an intoxicated female assaulting the other residents. Officer Homayoun arrested a 24-year-old female from Newark, for domestic battery. She was booked at Fremont Jail.

February 19, 2016

1629 Hours: Officer Fredstrom was dispatched to the JC Penny’s, located at the New Park Mall, for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Fredstrom accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 22 year old female of Newark. She was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

0008 Hours: Officer Homayoun conducted a traffic stop on Thornton Ave near Birch Street and contacted the driver a 45 year old male of Newark, who was determined to have an active felony warrant. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0118 Hours: Officers were dispatched to Community Center Park for an unknown problem. Officer responded and contacted a male and a female in the park. The 30 year old male of Newark was determined to have an active no bail misdemeanor warrant. Officer Homayoun placed him under arrest and transported him to Fremont PD Jail.

February 20, 2016

0836 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 54 year old male of Newark for felony domestic violence (273.5 PC). A judge issued an emergency protective order for the victim. The male was transported to Santa Rita Jail where he was booked.

1705 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 58 year old male of Newark for a felony warrant. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

February 21, 2016

1544 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 46 year old male of Newark for a felony warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and was booked at Fremont Jail.

1711 Hours: Officer Katz contacted a 61 year old male of Fremont near a homeless encampment on I880 and Thornton Avenue. The male had a felony warrant and was arrested for his warrant. He was transported to Fremont Jail where he was booked.

0433Hours: Officer Khairy was dispatched to the 6900 block of Jarvis Av to investigate the report of a stolen vehicle. Stolen was a green 97 Honda Odyssey Minivan license #6NQJ435.


February 22, 2016

0701 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a window smash to a vehicle at Town Place Suites, located at 39802 Cedar Boulevard. There were no items taken from the vehicle.

1402 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a Craigslist scam where unknown suspect(s) convinced a vehicle seller to wire $1200 to an unknown person to facilitate a purchase on Amazon.

2035 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated an auto-burglary that occurred in the parking lot of Malaikottai Indian restaurant, 5988 NewPark Mall Road,where two Apple MacBook Pro laptops were stolen.
